Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Ravena Guron is a British Indian author specialising in middle-grade (MG) and young adult (YA) fiction. Born, raised, and educated in London, she continues to reside in the city. Guron holds degrees in biochemistry and law, and her professional background includes work as a lawyer.
Her writing career encompasses both MG fantasy and YA thrillers. In the MG genre, she is known for the Farrowfell series, which includes The Thief of Farrowfell, The Beast of Farrowfell, and The Battle of Farrowfell. The first book in this series was shortlisted for Penguin’s WriteNow scheme and received high commendation in the FAB Prize.
In YA fiction, Guron has authored several thrillers, including This Book Kills, Catch Your Death, and Mondays Are Murder. Her debut YA novel, This Book Kills, was published by Usborne in January 2023 and has been shortlisted for the YA Book Prize and the British Book Awards’ Children’s Fiction Book of the Year.
Guron’s involvement in writing began during her school years. In 2013, she participated in the First Story Young Writers Programme at Wembley High Technology College, which she credits with building her confidence and serving as a foundational experience in her writing journey. She was also a mentee in the 2019 WriteMentor programme, which helped her develop her writing voice.
Guron is represented by literary agent Alice Sutherland-Hawes at ASH Literary.
