Juno Dawson is a British author known for her work in young adult fiction. She began her career as a primary school teacher before transitioning to writing. Dawson’s debut novel, Hollow Pike, was published in 2012 by Orion Publishing Group. The book explores themes of witchcraft and bullying in a small town setting.
Following her debut, Dawson released several other novels, including Say Her Name in 2014, a horror story inspired by the Bloody Mary urban legend, and Under My Skin in 2015, which delves into themes of identity and possession. Her 2015 novel, This Book is Gay, is a non-fiction work that provides an informative guide to LGBTQ+ issues for young people.
In 2016, Dawson published Mind Your Head, a non-fiction book addressing mental health for teenagers. Her novel Margot & Me was released in 2017, followed by Clean in 2018, which received critical acclaim for its portrayal of addiction and recovery. Clean was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize in 2019.
Dawson’s work often addresses contemporary social issues, and she has been recognised for her contributions to literature and LGBTQ+ advocacy. In 2020, she published Wonderland, a modern retelling of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and What’s the T?, a guide for transgender and non-binary teens.
Juno Dawson was appointed as a Stonewall School Role Model and has contributed to anthologies and magazines. Her novel Her Majesty’s Royal Coven, released in 2022, is the first in a fantasy series exploring themes of power and identity.
