Jess Butterworth biography

Jess Butterworth is a British author known for writing adventure stories for children. She grew up between the UK and India, and her experiences in both countries have influenced her writing. Butterworth studied creative writing at Bath Spa University, where she completed an MA in Writing for Young People.

Her debut novel, Running on the Roof of the World, was published by Orion Children’s Books in 2017. The story is set in Tibet and India and follows a young girl’s journey across the Himalayas. Butterworth has since written several other books for children, including When the Mountains Roared (2018), Swimming Against the Storm (2019), and Where the Wilderness Lives (2020), all published by Orion Children’s Books.

Butterworth’s novels often explore themes of adventure, nature, and resilience, drawing on her interest in the environment and her experiences in different cultures. Her books are aimed at middle-grade readers and are set in a variety of locations, from the Himalayas to the bayous of Louisiana and the wilds of Wales and Scotland.

In 2022, Jess Butterworth published Into the Volcano with Orion Children’s Books.
