Eoin Colfer biography

Eoin Colfer was born in Wexford, Ireland, in 1965. He became interested in writing while he was at primary school, where he wrote Viking stories inspired by his history lessons. He took a degree at Dublin University, qualified as a primary school teacher and returned to work in Wexford. Between 1992 and 1996, he worked in Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Italy. His first book, Benny and Omar, was published in 1998 and drew on his experiences in Tunisia. In 2001, he published the first Artemis Fowl novel and then left teaching to write full time.

The Artemis Fowl series runs to eight books, ending with Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian, published by Puffin in 2013. Artemis Fowl won the WHSmith Children’s Book of the Year Award and Children’s Book of the Year at the Children’s Book Awards. Colfer also wrote The Supernaturalist, Airman, Half Moon Investigations and the Legend of… books. His WARP series includes The Reluctant Assassin, The Hangman’s Revolution and The Forever Man. In 2009, he wrote And Another Thing …, the sixth instalment of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. He returned to the Fowl world with The Fowl Twins, published on 5 November 2019.
