Captain Charles B. Weeks is an American maritime educator, master mariner and Titanic researcher. He is Professor Emeritus of Marine Transportation at Maine Maritime Academy, where he taught navigation and other aspects of nautical science. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1964 and later served as chair of its Nautical Science department.
Weeks holds a United States Coast Guard Unlimited Master’s licence for steam or motor vessels on oceans. Before his academic career, he spent eight years sailing with American Export Isbrandtsen Lines in a range of officer positions, including Second Officer aboard the passenger liner SS Constitution. He has also served on the Maine Pilotage Commission and has more than five decades of experience in shipping and maritime education.
His Titanic research concentrates on navigation, shipboard procedures and the technical circumstances surrounding the disaster. With Cathy Akers-Jordan, he wrote True Course, an examination of the courses and compass terminology used in evidence from Titanic’s officers. He has also written and reviewed research on the ship’s navigation and final hours.
Weeks is a co-author of Report into the Loss of the SS Titanic: A Centennial Reappraisal, published by The History Press. The collaborative study reassesses the disaster using evidence accumulated since the original 1912 inquiries and the discovery of the wreck. Weeks contributed his professional knowledge of navigation, seamanship and shipboard operations to the project.
