Vivian French is a British author who has written numerous books for children and young readers. She began her career in the arts, working as an actor and storyteller before turning to writing. French has produced a wide range of works, including picture books, fiction for young readers, and non-fiction titles. Her writing often features themes of friendship, family, and adventure.
Among her best-known works are the Tales from the Five Kingdoms series, which blends elements of fantasy and humour, and the Tiara Club series, aimed at younger readers. French has also written picture books such as Oliver’s Vegetables and The Most Wonderful Thing in the World. In addition to her fiction, she has contributed to educational and non-fiction titles for children.
French is involved in promoting literacy and creative writing, and she has worked with schools, libraries, and festivals to encourage children to read and write. She has also taught on the Illustration degree course at Edinburgh College of Art.
In 2016, Vivian French was awarded an MBE for services to literature, literacy, illustration, and the arts.
