Thomas Halliday is a British palaeobiologist and author. He studied at the University of Cambridge, where he completed his undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences, and later earned a doctorate in palaeobiology from the University of Bristol. Halliday has held research positions at institutions including University College London, focusing on the evolution of mammals and the reconstruction of ancient ecosystems.
Halliday’s writing combines scientific research with narrative non-fiction. His debut book, Otherlands: A World in the Making, was published by Allen Lane in 2022. The book explores the history of life on Earth by reconstructing sixteen different prehistoric worlds, drawing on the latest palaeontological and geological evidence. Otherlands was shortlisted for the 2022 Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction.
