Peter Wohlleben biography

Peter Wohlleben is a German forester and author who writes about trees, forests and the natural world for general and young readers.

His children’s list includes the illustrated nonfiction title Can You Hear the Trees Talking? Discovering the Hidden Life of the Forest (Greystone Kids, 2019), which adapts ideas from his international bestseller The Hidden Life of Trees for ages 8–12. The book presents activities, quizzes and short investigations designed to help children observe how trees grow, communicate and respond to their environment.

Further titles for younger audiences include the picture book Peter and the Tree Children (Greystone Kids, 2019) and the middle-grade nonfiction guides Do You Know Where the Animals Live? and What’s Wild Outside Your Door?, which explore animal behaviour and urban nature for readers in the upper primary years.

Can You Hear the Trees Talking? Discovering the Hidden Life of the Forest won the AAAS/Subaru Prize for Excellence in Science Books.
