Louise Rennison biography

Louise Rennison was an English author and comedian whose work for young readers centred on comic teenage diaries and school-age experiences. She grew up in Leeds and became best known for the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series, which follows teenager Georgia Nicolson and her friends, the Ace Gang.

Before writing children’s and young adult fiction, Rennison worked in stand-up comedy, comedy writing, radio and newspaper columns. Her one-woman autobiographical show was called Stevie Wonder Felt My Face. A newspaper column led to an invitation from Piccadilly Press to write for teenagers, and Georgia Nicolson was created from that opportunity.

Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging introduced Georgia Nicolson and became the opening book in the series. Further Georgia Nicolson books include On the Bright Side, I’m Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God, Knocked Out by My Nunga-Nungas and Dancing in My Nuddy-Pants. The first Georgia Nicolson book was later adapted into the 2008 film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, which also used material from the second book.

Rennison also wrote The Misadventures of Tallulah Casey, a spin-off series about Georgia’s younger cousin. Withering Tights belongs to that follow-up series and won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize.
