Kuki Gallmann biography

Kuki Gallmann is an Italian-born author and conservationist, known for her memoirs and work in environmental preservation. She was born in Treviso, Italy, and later moved to Kenya. Gallmann is the author of several books, most notably the memoir I Dreamed of Africa, which recounts her experiences after relocating to Kenya and the personal tragedies she faced there. The book was first published in 1991.

Gallmann has also written A Night of Lions and Elephant Memories, which further explore her connection to Africa and its wildlife. Her writing often reflects her commitment to conservation and her deep relationship with the Kenyan landscape.

In addition to her literary work, Gallmann founded the Gallmann Memorial Foundation, an organisation dedicated to promoting sustainable development, environmental education, and the protection of biodiversity in Kenya. The foundation manages the Ol Ari Nyiro conservancy, a significant area for wildlife conservation in the Laikipia region.

Gallmann’s contributions to literature and conservation have been recognised internationally. Her memoir I Dreamed of Africa was published in 1991.
