John Lanchester is a British novelist, journalist and nonfiction author. Faber lists him as the author of six works of fiction and four works of nonfiction.
His first novel, The Debt to Pleasure, was published by Picador in 1996. The book won the Whitbread First Novel Award and the Hawthornden Prize.
Lanchester’s later fiction includes Mr Phillips, Fragrant Harbour, Capital, The Wall and Reality and Other Stories. Capital was adapted as a BBC television drama in 2015.
His nonfiction includes Whoops! Why Everyone Owes Everyone and No One Can Pay, a book about the financial crisis, and How to Speak Money, which explains financial language and ideas for general readers.
Lanchester has written for publications including the London Review of Books, The Guardian, The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books. The Wall was published by Faber & Faber in 2019.
