Janet Charters is a children’s picture-book author whose work includes The General, a story illustrated by Michael Foreman. She studied painting in Poole, Dorset, and in London, England. The General was her first picture book.
The General is a children’s picture book about a general who falls from his horse, notices flowers and nature, and changes his country by choosing peace instead of military power. The book was created in 1961 and was later restored for a 2010 hardback edition with 48 pages, published for readers aged 4 to 8 years.
The 2010 edition of The General was published by Templar Books with ISBN 978-1848771536 and a 5–8 Infant/Junior age range. The text has an anti-war theme, and General Jodhpur disbands his army so the soldiers can return home and help make their country beautiful.
