Huw Lewis-Jones is a British author, historian, and editor known for his work in children’s and young adult non-fiction, particularly on themes of exploration, nature, and the polar regions. He has served as a curator at the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge, and at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
Lewis-Jones has written and edited several books for young readers, including Explorers (2022), illustrated by Sam Brewster and published by Walker Books. He is also the author of Blue: A History of the Colour as Deep as the Sea (2022), illustrated by Ben Sanders, and The Writer’s Map: An Atlas of Imaginary Lands (2018), which won the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Award for Illustrated Travel Book of the Year in 2019.
His other works include Arctic (2018), Ocean: Exploring the Marine World (2022), and The Sea Journal: Seafarers’ Sketchbooks (2019). Lewis-Jones has collaborated with illustrators such as Sam Brewster and Ben Sanders, and his books have been published by Walker Books, Thames & Hudson, and Phaidon Press.
He has contributed to the field of exploration history through both academic and popular publications, and his books have received recognition for their visual and educational content. In 2019, The Writer’s Map was awarded the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Award for Illustrated Travel Book of the Year.
