Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Emily Haworth-Booth is a British author and illustrator known for her work in children’s literature. She studied at the Royal Drawing School and has taught drawing there. Her debut picture book, The King Who Banned the Dark, was published by Pavilion Children’s Books in 2018. The book explores themes of power and protest through a story about a young king who tries to ban darkness from his kingdom.
Haworth-Booth’s second picture book, The Last Tree, was published by Pavilion Children’s Books in 2020. This book addresses environmental themes, focusing on a community’s relationship with nature and the consequences of deforestation. Both books feature her distinctive illustration style and have been used in educational settings to prompt discussion about social and environmental issues.
In addition to her picture books, Haworth-Booth has contributed comics and illustrations to various publications. She has also been involved in teaching and workshops, sharing her expertise in drawing and storytelling with children and adults.
The Last Tree was published by Pavilion Children’s Books in 2020.
