David Litchfield biography

David Litchfield is a British author and illustrator known for his work in children’s picture books. He began his career as an illustrator, producing artwork for magazines, newspapers, and book covers before moving into writing and illustrating his own stories. Litchfield’s debut picture book, The Bear and the Piano, was published by Frances Lincoln Children’s Books in 2015. The book received critical recognition and was followed by two sequels, The Bear, the Piano, the Dog and the Fiddle and The Bear, the Piano and Little Bear’s Concert.

Litchfield has also illustrated books for other authors, including Grandad’s Secret Giant and Lights on Cotton Rock, both published by Frances Lincoln Children’s Books. His illustration style is characterised by rich, atmospheric imagery and a blend of traditional and digital techniques. In addition to his solo projects, Litchfield has collaborated with writers such as Ross Montgomery on The Building Boy and with Smriti Halls on Rain Before Rainbows.

David Litchfield’s work has been recognised by several awards. The Bear and the Piano won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for Illustrated Books in 2016.
