Brita Granström is a Swedish-born artist and illustrator, born in 1969 near Eskilstuna, Sweden. She studied at Örebro Art School and later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Konstfack, Sweden’s National School of Art and Design, in Stockholm. In 1993, she moved to the UK, where she now resides in Northumberland and divides her time between Britain and Sweden. Her work encompasses both fine art and children’s book illustration.
Granström is renowned for her collaborations with her partner, author and illustrator Mick Manning. Together, they have created over 60 children’s books, including the acclaimed ‘Fly on the Wall’ series, which explores historical events through the eyes of an observer. Their other notable works include ‘What Mr Darwin Saw’, ‘The Beatles’, and ‘The History of Prehistory’. Their books have been translated into multiple languages and have received numerous awards, such as the Smarties Silver Award and the English Association Non-Fiction Award.
In addition to her work in children’s literature, Granström is a fine artist whose paintings have been exhibited in galleries across the UK and Sweden. She is represented by Thompson’s Galleries in London and Aldeburgh, and her work is also featured at Godfrey & Watt in Harrogate and the Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh. Her paintings often depict intimate domestic scenes and sweeping landscapes, capturing moments of everyday life with a distinctive style that blends realism with a touch of the poetic.
