Anthony Ham biography

Anthony Ham is a travel and nature writer and photographer from Australia. Over more than twenty years, he has journeyed to remote and wild regions, including Africa, the Arctic, the Amazon, Outback Australia, North and West Africa, and the Middle East.

His first non-fiction book, The Last Lions of Africa: Stories from the Frontline in the Battle to Save a Species, was published by Allen & Unwin in Australia on 4 August 2020. The book explores conservation efforts focused on one of Africa’s most endangered elephant herds.

In addition to his books, Ham has authored or co‑authored over 135 travel guides for Lonely Planet, covering destinations such as Botswana & Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, East and West Africa, Brazil, Spain, Madrid, Norway, Australia and Western USA.

His journalism and photography have appeared in publications including The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, National Geographic Traveler, BBC Wildlife and the Sydney-based The Monthly. He has also contributed to The Independent and Travel Africa.
