Sue Divin is a Northern Irish author known for her young adult novels that explore themes of identity, conflict, and reconciliation. She grew up in Derry/Londonderry and has a background in peace and reconciliation work, which informs much of her writing. Divin holds a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies.
Her debut novel, Guard Your Heart, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2021. The story is set in post-Good Friday Agreement Northern Ireland and follows two teenagers from different backgrounds as they navigate the complexities of their divided community. The novel was shortlisted for the 2021 Costa Children’s Book Award and the 2022 Yoto Carnegie Medal.
Divin’s second novel, Truth Be Told, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2022. This book centres on two teenage girls who discover they are connected by a family secret, prompting a journey across Ireland to uncover the truth about their pasts. Truth Be Told was shortlisted for the 2022 Irish Book Awards in the Teen and Young Adult Book of the Year category.
In addition to her novels, Divin has contributed to anthologies and has been involved in various literary and peace-building initiatives. Her work is recognised for its authentic portrayal of contemporary Northern Irish society and its focus on young people’s experiences.
In 2022, Truth Be Told was shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards Teen and Young Adult Book of the Year.
