Steve Hall is a historian, author and Titanic researcher specialising in the photographic and technical history of RMS Titanic and the Olympic-class liners. He has researched Titanic for more than three decades and is a foundation member of the Titanic and Steamship Historical Society of Australia. His work has also included consultancy for museums, auction houses and media organisations.
Hall has collaborated extensively with fellow Titanic researchers. His books include Titanic: The Ship Magnificent, written with Bruce Beveridge, Scott Andrews, Daniel Klistorner and Art Braunschweiger, and Titanic in Photographs, which draws on surviving images to document the ship, its construction, interiors and history. He has also co-written Titanic or Olympic: Which Ship Sank? and contributed to Report into the Loss of the SS Titanic.
For younger readers, Hall wrote Titanic 101: The Great Infographic History, with illustrations and infographic design by Katie Beard. Published by The History Press, the book uses statistics, diagrams and short factual sections to explore subjects including Titanic’s construction, passengers, facilities and sinking.
Hall and Bruce Beveridge also wrote RMS Titanic Colouring Book, featuring drawings by Lucy Hester and historical commentary about the ship’s design and interiors. Their later collaboration, RMS Titanic in 50 Objects, was published by The History Press in September 2022 and tells Titanic’s story through surviving artefacts, reproductions and objects associated with her sister ship Olympic.
