Stefan Gates biography

Stefan Gates is a British author, television presenter, broadcaster and live-show performer. He studied English at Oxford University before working in television and film production.

His books connect food, science and everyday questions. They include Gastronaut, In the Danger Zone, Incredible Edibles, Fartology: The Extraordinary Science Behind the Humble Fart, Catology: The Weird and Wonderful Science of Cats, Dogology: The Weird and Wonderful Science of Dogs and Rude Science: Everything You’ve Always Wanted to Know About the Science No One Ever Talks About.

Gates has written and presented television series for the BBC, including Full on Food, Cooking in the Danger Zone, E Numbers: An Edible Adventure and Food Factory. His children’s television work includes Gastronuts and Incredible Edibles for CBBC.

He has also presented documentaries including Can Eating Insects Save the World? and Calf’s Head and Coffee: The Golden Age of English Food for BBC Four. His live work includes family science shows performed in theatres, schools and science festivals.
