Sam Fern is a British author and editor specialising in children’s, young adult and cross-genre fiction.
He earned a First Class Honours degree in English Literature from Queen Mary, University of London, writing a dissertation on Victorian Gothic monstrosity.
Fern began his career as a writer and editor, holding in-house roles at publishers including Eris Press, Marginalia, Templar, and Big Picture Press, and assisting Hot Key and Piccadilly Press on various genres and formats.
His short story “Quiet” appeared in Shrapnel Magazine in both text and audio form. He has also authored tie-in works for the Gigantosaurus franchise.
In 2021, Fern pursued a master’s degree in Intermediality at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with Distinction. His dissertation analysed cross-media adaptation from comics to film to video games, using DC’s “Batman” as a case study.
His debut title for young readers, Escape Castle Dracula, was published by Big Picture Press, combining gothic themes, puzzles and narrative adventure. A forthcoming non-fiction title, Where the Dead Live, is set for release in September 2025 through Templar Books.
Fern continues to work in editorial capacities across publishing, serving both emerging and established authors, as well as producing his own writing projects.
