Ryan North writes fiction, comics, humour and non-fiction. His books include How to Take Over the World, How to Invent Everything, Romeo and/or Juliet and To Be or Not To Be. He created the webcomic Dinosaur Comics and has a master’s degree in computational linguistics from the University of Toronto.
North has written comics for young readers and older readers. Adventure Time, written by Ryan North and illustrated by Braden Lamb and Shelli Paroline, won the 2013 Eisner Award for Best Publication for Kids, ages 8–12. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, by Ryan North and Erica Henderson, won the 2017 Eisner Award for Best Publication for Teens, ages 13–17.
How to Invent Everything: A Survival Guide for the Stranded Time Traveler was published by Riverhead Books in ebook and audiobook formats on 18 September 2018, followed by a 480-page paperback on 17 September 2019. The book is an illustrated manual about rebuilding modern conveniences from first principles after being stranded in the past.
