Pete Wallis writes about restorative justice, youth justice, victim empathy and relationship and sex education. He has worked as Senior Practitioner in Restorative Justice for Oxfordshire Youth Offending Service, and he founded SAFE!, a charity supporting young people affected by crime. He has facilitated hundreds of restorative meetings and has written or co-written several books and articles on restorative justice.
His book Understanding Restorative Justice: How Empathy Can Close the Gap Created by Crime was published by Bristol University Press on 1 August 2014. The book introduces restorative justice through themes including responsibility, shame, forgiveness and closure, and uses case studies to follow the process from an offence through the criminal justice system and into a restorative meeting.
Pete Wallis co-wrote What Does Consent Really Mean? with Thalia Wallis, with illustrations by Joseph Wilkins. The graphic novel was published on 21 November 2017 and follows teenage classmates discussing consent, peer influence, healthy relationships and sexual assault; it also includes sexual health resources for students and teachers.
Pete Wallis later co-wrote Talking Consent: 16 Workshops on Relationship and Sex Education for Schools and Other Youth Settings with Thalia Wallis, with Joseph Wilkins as illustrator. The book was published on 21 October 2020 and provides lesson plans, workshops and creative ideas for discussing consent, pornography, sexting and related topics with young people aged 12 to 18.
