Nicholas Oldland is a Canadian author and illustrator of children’s books.
He earned a degree in fine arts at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. He later worked as a commercial artist and filmmaker, and has also been credited as a creative director at Hatley.
Oldland’s picture book Big Bear Hug was published by Kids Can Press in 2009. It was shortlisted for the Ontario Library Association’s Blue Spruce Award in 2011.
He created the Life in the Wild picture book series, which includes Making the Moose Out of Life, The Busy Beaver, Up the Creek, Walk on the Wild Side, Hockey in the Wild, and Camping in the Wild.
Oldland’s picture book The Busy Beaver was shortlisted for the Blue Spruce Award in 2013. His picture book Hop into Bed! was commended in the Canadian Children’s Book Centre’s Best Books for Kids & Teens list in 2018 and was also commended by Resource Links as a Best of the Year title in 2018.
Hockey in the Wild was named a CBC Books Best Canadian Picture Book of 2020.
