Lucy Letherland is a British illustrator known for her work in children’s non-fiction. She studied at Manchester School of Art, where she specialised in illustration. Letherland is particularly recognised for her detailed and engaging illustrations in the Atlas of Adventures series, which introduces young readers to geography, wildlife, and cultures from around the world.
Her first major publication, Atlas of Adventures, was published by Wide Eyed Editions in 2014. The book, written by Rachel Williams and illustrated by Letherland, features double-page spreads depicting different locations and activities across the globe. The success of this title led to further collaborations in the series, including Atlas of Animal Adventures and Atlas of Dinosaur Adventures, both published by Wide Eyed Editions.
Letherland’s illustrations are characterised by their vibrant colours, intricate details, and playful style, which aim to engage children and encourage curiosity about the world. Her work has been featured in several other non-fiction titles for children, often focusing on themes of exploration, nature, and discovery.
In 2015, Atlas of Adventures was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in the Illustrated Books category.
