Kristjana Williams biography

Kristjana S Williams is an Icelandic artist, illustrator and designer. She studied graphic design and illustration at Central St Martins before working as a Creative Director. Her studio work includes fine art pieces, art prints and furniture.

Williams illustrated The Wonder Garden, written by Jenny Broom and published in 2015. In that project she used fragments of Victorian engravings with contemporary illustration and colouring to create detailed natural-world scenes.

Her commissions include art for the Rio Olympic Games. Her named awards include a D&AD award, a Clio Award and first prize at New York Festivals Grand Prix.

Williams illustrated Into the Jungle: Stories for Mowgli, written by Katherine Rundell and published by Candlewick Press on 2 October 2018. The book is a 240-page companion to Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 Mowgli stories and is given an age range of 8 to 12 years.

Williams provided illustrations for Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser, edited by Kate Bailey and Simon Sladen. The book explores the cultural history of Lewis Carroll’s Alice books across art, literature, theatre, film, science, technology, fashion and politics.
