Kate Cunningham is a children’s author and former primary school teacher who writes fact-led history stories for younger readers. Through her Reading Riddle imprint she created the A Flea in History series, in which Vlad the flea narrates major events for KS1–KS2 audiences, supported by classroom resources and activity books.
Titles in the series include Vlad and the Great Fire of London, Vlad and the Florence Nightingale Adventure, Vlad and the First World War, Vlad and the Space Race and Vlad and Tutankhamun’s Tomb, with picture-book texts paired with illustrations by Sam Cunningham. She also writes short, puzzle-rich activity companions and teaching materials linked to each story, and has produced the Time Tumblers title Benji and the Gunpowder Plot.
Her recent picture book in the series, Captain Vlad and the Mary Rose, was published by Reading Riddle on 29 March 2024.
