Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Hervé Tullet is a French author and illustrator, known for his innovative children’s books. He began his career in advertising before publishing his first children’s book, Comment papa a rencontré maman, in 1994. Tullet has since written and illustrated over 80 books, many of which have been translated into multiple languages.
His most widely recognised work, Press Here (Un livre), was published in 2010 by Bayard in France and by Chronicle Books in the United States. Press Here has sold millions of copies worldwide and has been translated into more than 35 languages. The book was a New York Times bestseller and received critical acclaim for its interactive format.
Other notable titles by Tullet include Mix It Up! (Couleurs), Let’s Play! (On joue?), and The Game of Light (Le jeu de la lumière). His books often encourage reader participation and exploration, using simple shapes, colours, and instructions.
Tullet has received several awards for his work, including the Sorcières Prize in France for Faut pas confondre in 1998. He has also been recognised by the Bologna Ragazzi Award and the Parents’ Choice Gold Award. In addition to his books, Tullet has led workshops and interactive exhibitions for children in various countries.
Press Here was adapted into a stage production by the Bay Area Children’s Theatre in 2018.
