Glen Blackwell is a British children’s author who has worked in finance and began writing after being inspired by reading with his own children. His books are written for children aged approximately 9 to 12 and include contemporary adventure and historical time-travel fiction. He publishes through Zoetrope Books and also makes English and history resources available for schools and families.
Blackwell’s first children’s novel, We’re Moving Where?!, was published in 2020. It follows Harry after his family moves to a cabin in the Canadian wilderness, forcing him to adjust to a very different way of life. He followed it in 2021 with The Blitz Bus, which introduces Jack and Emmie and transports the two children to London during the Second World War. The book has also been used as a class text in primary schools, and Blackwell offers school visits incorporating writing, publishing and Second World War history.
Jack and Emmie return in The Titanic Tunnel, published in 2022. During a school trip to Belfast, the pair travel back to 1912 and encounter Titanic before its maiden voyage. The third adventure, The Disappearing Diamond, takes them to Victorian London after the Koh-i-Noor diamond disappears during another school trip. Alongside his fiction, Blackwell produces the History Through Today’s Eyes podcast, which presents short episodes on historical subjects, including topics connected with the school curriculum. The Disappearing Diamond was published by Zoetrope Books in September 2023.
