Farhana Islam biography

Farhana Islam is a children’s author and primary school teacher. She was born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her storytelling work focuses on picture books and highly illustrated fiction for children, with Muslim family life, faith, culture and children’s curiosity among the subjects of her books.

Her debut picture book was Not Now, Noor, illustrated by Nabila Adani. The book follows Noor, a child who wants to understand why women in her family wear headscarves, and presents the question through family conversations and humour.

The Misadventures of Mina Mahmood is a 192-page illustrated junior fiction title by Farhana Islam, illustrated by Simran Diamond Singh and published by Farshore. It follows Mina Mahmood and her friends on an overnight school trip, combining school-adventure fiction with family life and friendship.

Ibraheem’s Perfect Eid, illustrated by Nabila Adani, was published by Puffin in paperback on 27 February 2025. The picture book follows Ibraheem on Eid as he looks for presents and learns about the holiday through prayer, food, family, games and community.

A US hardcover edition of Ibraheem’s Perfect Eid was scheduled by Running Press Kids for 10 February 2026, with 32 pages and an age range of 4 to 8.
