Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Dapo Adeola is a British illustrator and author known for his work in children’s literature. He is the illustrator of the picture book Look Up!, written by Nathan Bryon, which was published by Puffin Books in 2019. Look Up! won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for Illustrated Book in 2020. Adeola has also illustrated Clean Up! and Speak Up!, both written by Nathan Bryon and published by Puffin.
In addition to his collaborations, Adeola has illustrated books by other authors, including My Dad Is a Grizzly Bear and My Mum Is a Lioness, both written by Swapna Haddow. He is the creator of the picture book Hey You!: An Empowering Celebration of Growing Up Black, published by Puffin in 2021, which features contributions from 18 Black illustrators. Hey You! was shortlisted for the British Book Awards Children’s Illustrated Book of the Year in 2022.
Adeola has received recognition for his efforts to promote diversity in children’s publishing. He was awarded Illustrator of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2022.
