Ben Sedley is a clinical psychologist who has used Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in primary health centres and community mental health teams in New Zealand and London. His work has included adults, children, adolescents and families facing mental health difficulties, and he is co-founder of ACT Wellington.
Sedley writes psychology and self-help books for young readers and adults. His book Stuff That Sucks: A Teen’s Guide to Accepting What You Can’t Change and Committing to What You Can is an illustrated guide for young people about accepting emotions, reconnecting with personal values and taking steps towards behaviour guided by those values.
Stuff That Sucks was published in paperback with ISBN 9781472120533 and went on sale on 1 October 2015 in the Health & Personal Development and Self-help & Personal Development categories. A later New Harbinger edition, illustrated by Open Lab, Massey University, was released on 1 March 2017 as part of the Instant Help Solutions series.
Sedley co-authored Stuff That’s Loud: A Teen’s Guide to Unspiraling When OCD Gets Noisy with Lisa W. Coyne. His books also include Holding the Heavy Stuff: Making Space for Critical Thoughts and Painful Emotions, and Stuff That’s Loud appears among later work connected with his writing for teenagers about mental health.
