Aleksandra Mizielińska biography

Aleksandra Mizielińska is a Polish author, illustrator and graphic designer who creates children’s books with Daniel Mizieliński. They graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 2007 and later worked together through Hipopotam Studio.

Their first book, H.O.U.S.E. (D.O.M.E.K.), introduced notable examples of world architecture for young readers. They later published a series of large-format illustrated non-fiction titles, including Maps, Under Earth, Under Water, Under the Skin, Mammals, and Which Way to Yellowstone?.

Maps, first published in Polish as Mapy, became their best-known book and was translated widely. Culture.pl reported in 2020 that it had been translated into 40 languages and had sold more than 3 million copies worldwide.

Their work has received international recognition. Publisher and cultural source biographies credit Aleksandra Mizielińska and Daniel Mizieliński with distinctions including a BolognaRagazzi Mention, the Prix Sorcières and the Premio Andersen.

Maps was included in The New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2013 list.
