Tracey Baptiste biography

Tracey Baptiste is an author of children’s and young adult books, as well as a former teacher and editor. She was born in Trinidad and moved to the United States at the age of fifteen. Baptiste is known for writing both fiction and non-fiction, with a particular focus on stories that draw from Caribbean folklore and history.

Her debut novel, Angel’s Grace, was published in 2005. Baptiste is widely recognised for her middle-grade fantasy series beginning with The Jumbies, published by Algonquin Young Readers in 2015. The series is inspired by Caribbean folklore and includes sequels such as Rise of the Jumbies and The Jumbie God’s Revenge. In addition to her fiction, Baptiste has written non-fiction titles for young readers, including biographies and educational books.

Baptiste’s work has been noted for its incorporation of Caribbean culture and myth, providing representation and diverse narratives within children’s literature. She has also contributed to anthologies and written for educational publishers.

In 2019, Rise of the Jumbies was included on the Notable Children’s Books list by the American Library Association.
