Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Theo Parish is a British author-illustrator based in Norwich. They hold both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in games art and design from Norwich University of the Arts.
Their debut graphic novel, Homebody, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books. It is a visual autobiography that explores gender identity, self-acceptance and belonging.
Homebody was a finalist for the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults. In 2025, it won the Carnegie Shadowers’ Choice Medal for Illustration.
Parish’s illustrations draw on their love of fantasy, animation, and lived experience as a queer and neurodivergent person. Outside writing and illustrating, they enjoy playing tabletop role-playing games, building pillow forts, and befriending neighbourhood cats.
