Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Steve Cole is a British author known for his work in children’s and young adult fiction. He studied English at the University of East Anglia. Cole began his publishing career as an editor, working for BBC Worldwide, where he edited and commissioned books for the Doctor Who range. He later became the original editor of the Young Bond series by Charlie Higson.
Cole is the author of the Astrosaurs series, which launched in 2005 and features dinosaur space adventures for younger readers. The series has over twenty titles. He also wrote the Cows in Action series and the Slime Squad books, both aimed at primary school children.
In 2014, Cole was selected to continue the Young Bond series, writing four novels: Shoot to Kill (2014), Heads You Die (2016), Strike Lightning (2016), and Red Nemesis (2017). He has also contributed to the official Doctor Who fiction, including novels, audio dramas, and short stories.
Cole’s books have been published by Random House, Puffin, and Red Fox. His work has been translated into several languages. In 2017, Astrosaurs was shortlisted for the Blue Peter Book Award.
