Sharon King-Chai is an author and illustrator known for her innovative and interactive picture books for children. She grew up in Australia and has a background in graphic design, having studied at the University of Technology Sydney. King-Chai has worked across various creative industries, including music and advertising, before focusing on children’s publishing.
Her work is characterised by the use of mixed media, intricate die-cuts, and vibrant illustrations. King-Chai often explores themes of nature and discovery, encouraging young readers to engage with the physical book as part of the storytelling experience. She has collaborated with other authors as an illustrator and has also written and illustrated her own titles.
Among her notable works is Animalphabet, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by King-Chai, published by Two Hoots in 2018. This book features a series of animal riddles and interactive pages. She is also the author and illustrator of Starbird, published by Two Hoots in 2019, which combines poetic text with detailed artwork and cut-outs.
