Sean Michael Wilson biography

Sean Michael Wilson is a comic book writer from Scotland whose work includes graphic novels, manga-related projects and adaptations of classic literature. His adaptations for Classical Comics include Oscar Wilde’s The Canterville Ghost, Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights and Sweeney Todd.

Wilson edited AX: Alternative Manga with Mitsuhiru Asakawa; the 400-page anthology was published by Top Shelf with ISBN 978-1-60309-042-1 and reviewed on 12 July 2010. The anthology brought together work from the Japanese alternative manga magazine AX, including comics by Yoshihiro Tatsumi, Yusaku Hanakuma and Kazuichi Hanawa.

His politically focused comics include Parecomic: The Story of Michael Albert and Participatory Economics, written with artist Carl Thompson and introduced by Noam Chomsky; Seven Stories published the 224-page book with ISBN 978-1-60980-456-5. Parecomic presents Michael Albert’s ideas on participatory economics, including self-management, social justice and internationalism, through a visual narrative.

Wilson’s historical and social-issue comics include Fight the Power, written with Benjamin Dickson, with art by Adam Pasion, John Spelling and Hunt Emerson. The Many Not the Few: An Illustrated History of Britain Shaped by the People is a 128-page paperback by Wilson with illustrator Robert Brown and a foreword by Jeremy Corbyn, published on 6 June 2019.

Wilson has also written Japanese history, martial arts and samurai-themed books including The Book of Five Rings, Secrets of the Ninja, The 47 Ronin and Cold Mountain. The Faceless Ghost, by Sean Michael Wilson and Michiru Morikawa, was nominated in the 2016 Eisner Awards.
