Sara Lundberg biography

Sara Lundberg is a Swedish illustrator and author of children’s books. She studied at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. She worked as a painter before focusing on picture books.

Her books include The Bird in Me Flies, an illustrated novel in verse about a young girl who dreams of becoming an artist. The book is inspired by the paintings, letters and diaries of Swedish artist Berta Hansson. B.J. Epstein translated the English edition, which was published by Groundwood Books in 2020.

The original edition of The Bird in Me Flies won the August Prize in 2017. Lundberg has illustrated more than thirty children’s books, and her illustrated work includes Skriv om och om igen, another August Prize-winning children’s book.

Lundberg illustrated The Summer of Diving, written by Sara Stridsberg and published in English by Triangle Square in 2022. Her picture book The Cat Way was published in English by Eerdmans in 2024 and translated by B.J. Woodstein.

Nobody But Me was published by Seven Stories Press in 2026. The book was nominated for the August Prize and won the 2025 Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize.
