Rachel Williams biography

Rachel Williams is a children’s author and editor known for visually rich non-fiction and gift titles. Her work often explores nature and mindful observation, notably the bestselling series beginning with Slow Down: 50 Mindful Moments in Nature.

Slow Down pairs short nature vignettes with illustrations by Freya Hartas to help readers notice everyday natural wonders. The series has expanded for younger and bedtime audiences, including Slow Down… in the Park, Slow Down… on Your Doorstep, and Slow Down… and Sleep Tight, as well as the themed title Patience (A Slow Down Book) illustrated by Leonie Lord.

Williams has also authored large-format exploration books. Her collaborations include the Atlas of Animal Adventures project with Emily Hawkins and illustrator Lucy Letherland, and the interactive colour-lens title Illuminature created with the design duo Carnovsky, published by Wide Eyed Editions.

Slow Down: 50 Mindful Moments in Nature was first published in March 2020, and Illuminature was published on 6 October 2016.
