Peter Brown is an American author and illustrator of children’s books. He studied illustration at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Brown’s debut picture book, Flight of the Dodo, was published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in 2005. He has since written and illustrated several picture books, including Chowder (2006), The Fabulous Bouncing Chowder (2007), The Curious Garden (2009), and Mr. Tiger Goes Wild (2013).
Brown has also illustrated books for other authors, such as Children Make Terrible Pets (2010) and You Will Be My Friend! (2011). His work has received multiple accolades. The Curious Garden won the E.B. White Read Aloud Award in 2010. Mr. Tiger Goes Wild was named a 2014 Caldecott Honor Book.
In 2016, Brown published his first middle-grade novel, The Wild Robot, with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. The novel was followed by sequels, The Wild Robot Escapes (2018) and The Wild Robot Protects (2023). The Wild Robot was a New York Times bestseller and received the 2017 Children’s Choice Book Award for Third to Fourth Grade Book of the Year.
Peter Brown’s books have been translated into multiple languages and are published internationally. His illustrations and stories have earned him recognition from the American Library Association and the Society of Illustrators. In 2014, Mr. Tiger Goes Wild was awarded a Caldecott Honor.
