Nancy Butler is a romance and comics writer best known for her Regency novels and her graphic adaptations of Jane Austen. She also writes under her real name, Nancy J. Hajeski, and has produced nonfiction for adult and young readers.
As Nancy Butler she wrote twelve Signet Regency romances, developing tightly plotted stories set in early nineteenth-century Britain. Her novel The Rake’s Retreat won the Romance Writers of America’s RITA award for Best Regency Romance in 2000.
Butler later adapted Austen for Marvel, scripting the graphic novels Pride & Prejudice with art by Hugo Petrus and Sense & Sensibility with art by Sonny Liew. The adaptations present the original narratives in comics form while retaining key dialogue and period detail.
Writing as Nancy J. Hajeski, she has authored illustrated reference titles and pop culture books, alongside nature and animal nonfiction.
Her Marvel graphic novel adaptation of Pride & Prejudice spent thirteen weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.
