Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Mini Grey is a British author and illustrator known for her picture books for children. She studied at Brighton College of Art and later worked as a primary school teacher before pursuing a career in illustration. Grey’s debut picture book, The Pea and the Princess, was published in 2003. Her second book, Traction Man is Here, released in 2005, won the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize Gold Award and was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
Grey’s other notable works include Biscuit Bear (published as Ginger Bear in the United States), which won the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize in 2004, and The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon, which received the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2007. She has also written and illustrated Egg Drop, Traction Man Meets Turbo Dog, Three by the Sea, and Hermelin: The Detective Mouse.
Grey’s books have been translated into several languages and are published by Jonathan Cape and Red Fox, imprints of Random House Children’s Books. Her illustrations are recognised for their distinctive style and inventive use of perspective. In 2018, Grey’s book The Last Wolf was published by Jonathan Cape.
Mini Grey was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2007 for The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon.
