Mildred Taylor biography

Mildred D. Taylor is an American author known for her works exploring African American history and family life, particularly in the context of the American South. She was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and is best known for her series of novels following the Logan family, which draw on her own family’s oral history and experiences.

Taylor’s first published book was Song of the Trees, released in 1975 by Dial Books for Young Readers. This was followed by Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry in 1976, which won the Newbery Medal in 1977. The Logan family series continued with titles such as Let the Circle Be Unbroken (1981), The Road to Memphis (1990), and The Land (2001). Her books often address themes of racism, social injustice, and the strength of family bonds.

Taylor’s work has received several awards and honours. In addition to the Newbery Medal, she has been recognised with the Coretta Scott King Author Award and the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award. Her books are published by Penguin Random House and have been widely used in educational settings.

In 2020, Taylor published All the Days Past, All the Days to Come, which continues the story of the Logan family and marks a significant milestone in her literary career.
