Marie Lu is an American author known for her work in young adult fiction. She is the author of the Legend series, which began with the novel Legend published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons in 2011. The series continued with Prodigy (2013), Champion (2013), and Rebel (2019). Lu also wrote the Young Elites trilogy, comprising The Young Elites (2014), The Rose Society (2015), and The Midnight Star (2016).
Her Warcross duology includes Warcross (2017) and Wildcard (2018), both published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons. In 2020, Lu published Skyhunter, followed by its sequel Steelstriker in 2021. She has also contributed to anthologies and written graphic novels, including Batman: Nightwalker (2019), part of the DC Icons series.
Lu’s novels have appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list. Her debut novel, Legend, was a finalist for the 2011 Goodreads Choice Award for Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction. Warcross was nominated for the 2017 Goodreads Choice Award for Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction. Her books have been translated into multiple languages and published internationally.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Lu worked in the video game industry as an artist. She graduated from the University of Southern California. Legend was optioned for film adaptation by CBS Films in 2011.
In 2023, Lu published Stars and Smoke, the first in a new duology, with the sequel Icon and Inferno released in 2024.
