Louie Stowell began her writing career with non-fiction titles for children, covering topics such as space, coding, and politics. Notable works include The Story of Astronomy and Space (2009), The Usborne Official Astronaut’s Handbook (2016), and Politics for Beginners (2019). Her non-fiction work has been recognised with nominations for awards such as the Royal Society’s Young People’s Book Prize and the British Book Awards.
Her debut fiction novel, The Dragon in the Library, was published in 2019, followed by sequels The Monster in the Lake (2020) and The Wizard in the Wood (2021). In 2021, she released Otherland, a standalone middle-grade fantasy novel.
In 2022, Louie Stowell launched the Loki: A Bad God’s Guide series, reimagining the Norse god Loki as an eleven-year-old boy navigating life on Earth. The series includes titles such as Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Being Good and Loki: A Bad God’s Guide to Taking the Blame. The first book in the series was named Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month in February 2022 and won the Best Overall Children’s Book at the British Book Awards in 2023.
