Liselle Sambury is a Trinidadian-Canadian author of young adult fantasy, science fiction and horror. She studied linguistics at Queen’s University in Ontario, where she also took creative writing courses. Alongside her fiction, she produces videos for writers about publishing and the practical aspects of an author’s career.
Her debut novel, Blood Like Magic, was published by Margaret K. McElderry Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, in 2021. The novel follows teenager Voya Thomas, whose attempt to complete a witch’s trial confronts her with a task that threatens both her family’s magic and the person she has begun to love. Blood Like Magic was a finalist for the 2021 Governor General’s Literary Award for Young People’s Literature – Text and was followed by Blood Like Fate.
Sambury’s standalone YA novel Delicious Monsters was published in 2023. A supernatural thriller told across two timelines, it follows teenage girls connected to a mysterious mansion in northern Ontario and explores the secrets surrounding the house and their families.
She is also the author of the Mastery of Monsters trilogy. The first book, A Mastery of Monsters, was published by Margaret K. McElderry Books in 2025 and follows August as she infiltrates a secret society while searching for her missing brother. The sequel, A Clash of Carnivores, was published on 4 August 2026.
