Lisbeth Kaiser biography

Lisbeth Kaiser is an American children’s author and copywriter who writes illustrated biographies of historical and contemporary figures. She studied English and economics at Tufts University. Before becoming a children’s author, she worked as Copy Director at SpotCo, writing advertising campaigns for Broadway productions, and subsequently as an editor at Google. She has also worked as a freelance copywriter for organisations in entertainment and technology.

Kaiser has written several titles in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series, published by Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, an imprint of the Quarto Group. These include Maya Angelou (2016), illustrated by Leire Salaberria, Rosa Parks (2017), illustrated by Marta Antelo, and Emmeline Pankhurst (2017), illustrated by Ana Sanfelippo. The books introduce younger readers to the lives and achievements of the poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, the American civil rights campaigner Rosa Parks and the British suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst.

Maya Angelou was selected for the American Library Association’s 2017 Amelia Bloomer Book List, followed by Emmeline Pankhurst in 2018. The annual list recognised children’s and young adult books with significant feminist content.

Kaiser is also the author of the Who Was? Board Books series, published by Rise x Penguin Workshop, an imprint of Penguin Random House. These illustrated biographies introduce historical and public figures to preschool readers. Her contributions include books about Martin Luther King Jr., Jane Goodall, Malala Yousafzai, Barack Obama and Shirley Chisholm. Who Was Shirley Chisholm?, illustrated by Geraldine Sy, was published in December 2023. Who Is Billie Jean King?, illustrated by Risa Rodil, followed on 6 August 2024.
