Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Lex Croucher is a British author and screenwriter. Croucher’s debut young adult novel, Reputation, was published by Bonnier Books UK in 2021. The novel is set in the Regency era and explores themes of friendship and social dynamics. In 2022, Croucher published Infamous, also with Bonnier Books UK, continuing their focus on historical fiction for young adults.
Croucher’s first middle-grade novel, Gwen and Art Are Not in Love, was published by Bloomsbury in 2023. The book is a queer retelling of Arthurian legend, set in a medieval boarding school. Gwen and Art Are Not in Love was selected as a Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month in November 2023.
Croucher has also worked as a screenwriter and content creator. Their work has been published in the UK and internationally. Gwen and Art Are Not in Love was longlisted for the 2024 Carnegie Medal for Writing.
