Karen Benke is an author and creative-writing educator. She has worked with children and some adults in creative writing for over twenty years as a Poet in the Schools, writing guide and visiting author, and she founded The Writers Nest.
Her books focus on practical, playful writing activities for young writers. Rip the Page!: Adventures in Creative Writing was published by Roost Books on 27 July 2010, with 256 pages of prompts, word lists, writing dares and letters of encouragement for creative writing.
Leap Write In!: Adventures in Creative Writing to Stretch and Surprise Your One-of-a-Kind Mind was published by Roost Books on 2 April 2013. The book was created especially for tweens and teens, and its activities include quick free-writing prompts, mini memoirs, story suggestions, self-surveys, word lists and definition exercises.
Rip All the Pages!: 52 Tear-Out Adventures for Creative Writers was published by Roost Books on 5 March 2019. The 112-page activity book is for readers aged 7 and up and uses 52 prompts that ask children to cut, fold, tear and transform paper as part of creative writing.
